The Opportunity

As a Research Associate, you will be working on the GeoCAD heart disease risk project funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council. By joining a diverse research team, you will conduct high-quality research in biomedical engineering computations, and cardiovascular medical image analysis independently and as part of a team.

This position will give you the opportunity to foster your research and leadership skills, to further develop your project management skills, and to generate high calibre research outputs by contributing to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participating in leading international conferences and workshops and actively engaging with industry partners and the community.

The Research Associate will report to Dr. Susann Beier and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level A - $100,318 to $107,299 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed-term contract – 24 months, with the possibility for a 12-month extension
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills & Experience

  • PhD (or soon to be awarded) in disease risk modelling, medical image processing, machine learning and large-scale computational analysis or related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of high calibre publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity, with an emphasis on image processing, machine learning, and computational and statistical analysis.
  • Expertise in programming in python relevant to large-scale image analysis and computation.
  • Experience in large-scale project management with diverse stakeholders including budget management and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
